This tournament was presented at the Baltic Cup 2018 in Vilnius. Now, after two years of preparation, the new multi-national tournament will start in November 2020.

In 2018 the three Baltic associations agreed to host a new multinational tournament (Balticsmedia reported). The new “Baltic League” was presented at the Baltic Cup 2018 in Vilnius. Now, after two years of preparation, the green light has finally been given for this project: The Latvian Federation announces the start of this tournament for the end of November.

“This championship is another great opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the Federations in the Baltic States.The Baltic Hockey League will definitely help to further promote and develop hockey in the Baltic region.I am sure that we will see high-level hockey in this championship”said Latvian Hockey Federation President Aigars Kalvītis.

A total of six teams will take part in the first edition of this tournament, which starts on November 27, 2020: Hockey Punks Vilnius and Kaunas Hockey from Lithuania, HK Liepāja and HK Mogo from Latvia and from Estonia Tartu Valk 494 and Narva PSK.

In the group “Sandis Ozolins” Tartu Valk 494, HK Mogo and Kaunas Hockey will play against each other and in Tartu (Estonia) these games will take place. The second group with hockey punks Vilnius, HK Liepāja and Narva PSK play in the group “Darius Kasparaitis” and will play in Vilnius (Lithuania). Each team will play two games in the first round, and the top two teams from each group will advance to the “Final Four”.

The “Final Four” tournament will take place from December 18th to 20th in the new ice rink in Rēzekne in Latvia. The master of the Baltic Hockey League will be determined based on the results of the Final Four tournament. Furthermore, the best goalkeeper, defender, striker and the most valuable player are determined.

The Latvian Ice Hockey Association has committed to finance all expenses for the tournament.

“Lithuanian Hockey Association has always considered cooperation with other Baltic countries to be one of its most important priorities.Therefore, we are very glad that from now on we will organize not only national team tournaments, but also competitions of the strongest clubs in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.I think that this is a very important step for the development of hockey in Lithuania and the entire Baltic region” said Dainius Zubrus, President of the Lithuanian Hockey Association.
