After the defeat against Barys, Dinamo Riga had to admit defeat to Jokerit Helsinki with 1-3 in their second home game.
For Dinamo Riga, after the 2-3 opening defeat against Barys Nur-Sultan, the game against Jokerit Helsinki continued. The Finns triggered a wave of negative reactions in Russia by not appearing at Dinamo Minsk two days ago. In Finland itself it was received positively, as the players’ association also advised players against traveling to Minsk. A big mistake by Jokerit was certainly that they had agreed to participate in the game the day before.
In terms of sport, these two teams faced each other on August 27 in a test match in Finland. Jokerit won 4-1. Stanislav Galimov started in the Latvian goal for the first time today.
In the starting phase, both teams hardly allowed any shots on goal, so the attempt by Jokerits Anttila in the sixth minute was the first real chance in this game. Jokerit was also the more active team. After exactly 10 minutes of play, Ondrej Vitasek sent Martins Dzierkals on his way with a deep pass, who beat defender Jonathan Pudas and the Latvian goalkeeper in the Jokerit goal, Janis Kalnins, and gave Dinamo the lead for the first time. In the 14th minute, Jokerit had the best scoring chance so far. Marko Anttila put the puck in front of goal with a shot from an acute angle, with Galimov having problems with the defense, and Jesse Joensuu giving a good margin opportunity. The Russian in the Riga Tor could not be defeated. Shortly afterwards Vitasek had to go to the penalty box for two minutes, but Dinamo survived the well-played power play of the Finns without damage. There was a lot of pressure from the guests in the final phase of the start-up period. After Jordan Schroeder failed to bring the puck over the line on the already beaten Galimov, it was shortly afterwards Mikko Lehtonen who was able to equalize 1-1 after exactly 19 minutes with a shot from the wrist.
In the second section, the guests from Finland remained more active and also more dangerous. At the beginning there was a brief moment of horror when Riga legionnaire Matt White got the puck in the face. The American was able to continue the game after a short break. In the 29th minute, Jokerit striker Pihlsstrom was unstoppable even after a foul by Vitasek, who still served striker Tolvanen when he fell and Stanislav Galimov was once again the savior. Dinamo seemed to survive the two minutes with one player less, but just as the penalty had expired, Jordan Schroeder hit with a one-timer 2-1 lead for Jokerit (32.). Now Riga had to be more active and it was. Jokerit subsequently also received penalties, but countable things did not look out in these last minutes of the middle period.
Also in the third 20 minutes Dinamo Riga found it very difficult to get really dangerous in front of the guest gate. Jokerit was therefore closer to the third goal than Riga. In the final period, Riga managed to survive another power play for Jokerit. As a result, it was Schroeder and Tolvanen who each tested the Riga Goalie one more time. The team of coach Peteris Skudra just couldn’t find a way in front of the goal. Therefore it was Jokerit, who through Iiro Pakarinen, who could decide the game with the 3-1 for Jokerit Helsinki in the 59th minute. After a good performance, Riga was beaten again and also loses the second home game of the new season.
