Janis Sprukts will play next season for the “Eaters Limburg” in the Dutch BeNeLiga – Oscars Cibulskis will change from Hradec Kralove to Litvinov in the Czech extra league.
The Dutch team of “Snackpoint Eaters Limburg” was able to sign an important person for the coming season: The 38-year-old attacker Jānis Sprukts, who last played at HK Kurbads in Riga, comes to cause danger in the attack. With 113 caps for Latvia, 14 games in the NHL, 117 in the AHL and 237 in the KHL, Sprukts has a lot of experience.
This was achieved through “Eaters” head coach Gints Bikars. Since Kurbads is not playing in the Latvian league this year and Sprukts is still in top form and wants to play, he has agreed. The club officials didn’t have to think long, because it fits in perfectly with the policy that an import must have added value for the team.
Jānis Sprukts was drafted by the Florida Panthers in the 8th round in 2000, but first played in the top Finnish league and in Denmark before moving to the Florida Panthers and their farm team in the AHL, the Rochester Americans, in 2006. In total, Janis played 14 games in the NHL and 117 in the AHL. Most of the games he played in the Russian KHL. A total of 237 games, including at Dynamo Riga and CSKA Moscow. Jānis switched to Ritten / Renon in Italy via Slovakia and Switzerland in 2016-2017 and won the Alpine League and the national title this year. For the last three years he played in the Latvian league with HK Kurbads.
Another prominent player changed his team for the coming season: Oscars Cibulskis.
The 32-year-old defender is moving to HC Litvinov after three years with Hradec Kralove within the Czech extra league. With Hradec Kralove, Cibulskis was last in the CHL final against IF Djurgardens, but lost it. Before that, he played eight years in his home country at Dinamo Riga in the KHL and completed 304 games. In the season 2008-09 he played in Salzburg in the Austrian EBEL and reached the final there. However, he and his team had to admit defeat to the later champions, EC KAC in seven games. For the Latvian national team, Cibulskis played at seven world championships and played a total of 101 games.
