In the first home game Dinamo Riga loses 2-3 to Barys Nur-Sultan
New logo – new head coach – new team – this is how Dinamo Riga starts the new season. At the start of the KHL season, the Kazakh team Barys Nur-Sultan was a guest in the Arena Riga, where almost 1000 spectators were allowed.
Dinamo came to a power play early on but couldn’t take advantage of it. The first goal was scored by Barys – Valk scored 1-0 (8.) after a single action. Dinamo countered, however, had to accept a penalty. Barys took the opportunity and Mikhailis scored to make it 2-0 (14.) after a pass from Shevchenko. After this goal, Dinamo seemed a bit confused and after two penalties got into a 3-5-minor power play. Barys couldn’t score a goal in this situation, but a few seconds after the last penalty had expired, Dietz scored the 3-0 (17.). With this comfortable lead, Barys went into the first break.
In the second period, the game was initially characterized by penalties for both teams. Dinamo’s Matthew Maione even had to go into the penalty box twice in a row. Despite promising chances, no goals were scored. In the last power play for Dinamo of this period, the hosts came to the connecting goal one minute before the second break. After a pass from Parshin, Chernov scored 1-3 (39.) and brought Dinamo back into the game.
The third period was very competitive at the beginning. At the beginning there was a double exclusion – Dinamo’s Lipon and Bary’s Dietz had a fight after a cross-check from Bary’s Frattin. All three were allowed to cool off on the penalty bench. The game itself was fast and there were numerous chances for both teams, but the two goalies, Proshkuryakov (DIN) and Karlsson (BAR) each prevented a goal. Towards the end of the game it got tense again when Gurkov got a penalty. Dinamo took the risk and Parshin scored the 2-3 with 26 seconds to go. This goal came too late, however, because Barys survived the last few seconds and Dinamo, despite a good game, suffered a defeat at the start of the season.
