After four and a half seasons, Roberts Bukarts returns to Severstal Cherepovets in the KHL.

His departure from the KHL was in the 2015-16 season. The 29-year-old froward moved from Dinamo Riga to the Czech Extraliga. Bukarts has played for Dinamo Riga in the KHL since 2009-10. But he had a 2-way contract and also played alternately in the MHL at HK Riga. Overall, Roberts Bukarts gained a lot of experience in the KHL in seven seasons. With Zlin he reached in his first season the play-offs. In the following two years, Bukarts played with his team in the playoffs. In the 2018-19 season, he switched to HC Trinec. He only played 33 games and moved to the Czech capital Prague, the traditional club HC Sparta. As before, Bukarts reached the play-offs with his new club.

However, he remained below expectations and was loaned to HC Vitkovice for the 2019-20 season. In 42 games, Bukarts scored a respectable 42 points (16 + 26). For the coming season he received an offer from the Russian KHL team Severstal Cherepovets, which Bukarts also accepted. He signed a contract for one year. For the Latvian national team, Bukarts played with the U18 and U20 at five junior world championships. In the senior national team, he was in the squad at seven world championships.
