Texas Stars hosted Grand Rapids Griffins for the final time this regular season. In the head-to-head statistics, the Stars won four out of six mutual games this season, also the Fins Joel Kiviranta, recalled from Dallas, and Oula Palve are in the squad.

Before the game on Feb 29th, the Stars haven taken just one win the last eight games and earning a 1-5-0-2 record in that time. On the other side, Griffins lost three straight games to San Antonio after opening the month with 6-1-1-0 record.

Grand Rapids took the lead in the 17th minute of the 1st period when Veleno assisted by Puempel and Hicketts opened the score during a power play.  Rassmussen (Puempel, Tangradi) added another power play goal in the 1:01 in the 2nd period. That put a dent into a recent impressive Stars’ power play record in the last seven games when they only allowed 6 goals out of 25 power plays.

Stars‘ Tufte (Gardner, Melnick) answered early in the 2nd period. Vala – a Czech-born player recently assigned to Texas from Idaho Steelheads – added another goal in the 10th minute of the 2nd period (Robertson, Dowling).
