With Aleksandrs Galkins and Gatis Sprukts, two France legionaries return to Latvia.

HK Zemgale is stepping up with the 22-year-old Gatis Sprukts. The Forward was under contract to “Brest” in France last season. Born in Jelgava, Spruks started his career with his home club, Jelgava. 2011-12 he went to Riga and played at SK Riga, HK Riga in the MHL and also some games at Dinamo Riga in the KHL. In the 2017-18 season Sprukts moved to Austria for one season to the “Kitzbühel Adler”. He then went to France to Brest, where he now back in his homeland accepted an offer from Zemgale. For the Latvian national team was Sprukts with the U18 and U20 in a total of three world championships. Now it is important for the young talent to recommend themselves for the A-Team.

Also Kurbads was in France in search of reinforcement for the new season. 29-year-old Alekandrs Galkins accepted an offer and returns from Montpellier to his homeland. His career began with juniors at Metalurg Liepaja and HK Riga. In the season 2008-09 Galkins went to Belarus. The following years he played at HK Gomel, HK Brest, Keramin Minsk, Minsky Zubry and Dinamo-Shinnik Bobruysk. In between, Galkins was on duty for a couple of matches at Zemgale and in Russia at Kapitan Stupino. After another year at Zemgale, Galkins tried his luck in France, at Mulhouse. After a total of three seasons he moved within the league to Chamonix Morzine. After only 21 games Galkins went to Kurbads and also reached the play-offs. After another year at Kurbads, he played for a season in Austria at the Kitzbühel Adler. He then joined Poloniy Bytom in Poland. After nine games, it was back to France to Montpellier, where he also came in doe play-offs. For the Latvian national team, he was only honored to participate in a U18 World Cup, completed three games.
