As the second Latvian player, pick # 18 center-forward Rudolf Polcs was selected by the Quebec League team “Val-d’Or Foreurs”. Last year, the team reached the playoffs, but lost in the first round after seven games with 3-4. Polcs was in action at the U18 and U20 World Championships. During the season he played for HK Riga in the MHL 53 games (11G / 6A) and for HS Riga, in the Latvian league, four games.
As the third Latvian player, Harijs Brants of Chicoutimi Sagueneens, from the Quebec League, was voted pick # 33 in Round 1. In the regular championship, it was the third-strongest team in the Eastern Conference, but the battle for the title ended in the first play-off round. The 17-year-old defender played in the U18 and U20 World Championships, scoring 2 points each (1G / 1A). In the MHL he played for HK Riga. As the youngest player he scored 13 points (5G / 8A) in 49 games.
The quartet was completed with Raivis Kristians Ansons. The 17-year-old wing was drawn in the second round as pick # 105 by the Baie-Comeau Drakkar from the Juniors League (QMJHL). Ansons comes from the Latvian junior league and was active in the SK Riga and also for the HS League. Last season he was also in the squad for Latvia in the U18 and U20 World Cup.
