Group B – Ondrej Nepla Arena, Bratislava

In the second game in Bratislava Italy had to compete against the world champion Sweden. The Italians conceded against Switzerland a 0-9-pack. Such a result should be avoided today. The Swedes wanted to forget the defeat against the Czech Republic.

The World Champion gets off to a good start and after just over two minutes, Lander scores the 1-0 (3.). The Italians were much improved and could keep up. Playfully, the Swedes were better, they gave a lot of opportunities. Nylander or Lindblom could not beat Italian goalie de Filippo Roia. The Swedes were also in the second period, the game-determining team. Italy was fats exclusively concerned with defense. After just under five minutes, Sweden had a power play and Hörnqvist scored the 2-0 (26.). The Swedes again and again with the train to the Italian goal, but de Filippo Roia could prevent further goals.

At the beginning of the last third Sweden came back to a power play, the Italians had too many players on the ice. It only took 16 seconds and Lindblom scored the 3-0 (42.). The game was decided. Only one minute later Mario Kempe raises to 4-0 (43.). Italy came to power play but Sweden scored the goal. Lander hits with a short hander to 5-0 (49.). The Italians are losing their strength and Sweden is still pushing. Nylander scored the 6-0 (53.). This goal was only good after video evidence and the Swedes played their game on. Just three minutes later, Lander scores with his second goal to make it 7-0 (56.). The Italians continued to strive to achieve at least the honorary goal. Trivellato tried a long range shot past the gate. The Swedes still had not enough and Hörnqvist scored the 8-0 (59.). Italy suffers the next debacle and Sweden gets the first points.

Group A – Steel Arena, Kosice

In Kosice there was the match between Denmark and Germany. The Danes won against France in a penalty shoot-out and Germany made a victory over newly promoted Great Britain.

In a playfully contested period Germany had more game shares, the Danes were always very dangerous in the counterattack. There were also penalties and both teams could not use their power plays. The logical consequence was a 0-0 after twenty minutes. In the second period, Denmark failed to take the lead. In three power plays in a row they succeeded despite good chances no goal. After halftime of the game Germany came to two power plays and it was used. Plachte scored the pass from Draisaitl 1-0 (31.). The Germans became stronger and seconds before the second break Tiffels scores the 2-0 (40.).

The final period was contested, the Danes did not want to be beaten yet. A few seconds after halftime of the period, Bau Hansen scored the goal of 1-2 (51.) and it was exciting again. The Danes pushed for the equalizer and Germany was over-busy with the defensive. But with united forces Germany brought this result over the time and celebrates the second victory.
