Lokomotiv Yaroslavl needed only one victory to climb to the next round after a 3-0 win over Sochi, as well as Salavat Ufa after today’s 2-1 over-time victory at Metallurg. Dynamo Moscow missed this opportunity with a defeat in Helsinki.

Lokomotiv Yaroslavl suffered two defeats in Sochi last time. In today’s home game but again everything went according to plan for the team of coach Kvartalnov. Lok was the better team for practically the entire game. The opening goal to 1-0 succeeded but only in the 25th minute by Kozun. In the 30th minute Kayumov increased to 2-0. This allowed both scorers in this game each booked a goal and an assist. Just over four minutes before the break, Apalkov still makes it 3-0 for the home team. Sochi could never really be dangerous in this game Lokomotiv. Sochi recorded a total of only 17 shots on Salák’s goal to celebrate his second PlayOff shutout against Sochi. With a 3-2 lead for Yaroslavl, it’s back to the Olympic city on the Black Sea coast.

Jokerit Helsinki had to win in the third home game of the series against Dynamo Moscow to stay in the uphill fight today. The Finns were also the more active and thus more goal-scoring team in the starting period. This also led in the 4th minute to 1-0 lead. Jokerit was very aggressive in front of the opponent’s goal and so Joensuu took advantage of the opportunity, as Dynamo goalkeeper Yeryomenko was out of sight, for a quick opening goal. But Jokerit did not succeed in more than this goal for the time being.

In the middle period, the guests were a lot stronger and took the duels better. Since the two goalies apparently could not be beaten, it was with the tight lead for Helsinki in the final period. In the 53rd minute Norman scores 2-0 for Jokerit. This period was also the most punitive part of the game. But only Dynamo used a power play to make the game really exciting again in the 58th minute. Dynamo already acted with six outfield players when Zackrisson scored to 1-2. The blue did not succeed, however, and so there is a Game 6 in Moscow on Thursday.

The duel between Metallurg Magnitogorsk and Salavat Yulaev continues to be exciting. Today’s fifth game was again a very balanced one, with most shots in the first period but no goals scored. This changed only halfway through regular time when Kugryshev took the visitors’ 1-0 lead. But just over two minutes later Ellison equalized with his second play-off goal to 1-1 for Metallurg. In the third period both teams risked very little. There were also no penalties and no goals and so it was the third time between the two teams in extra time. It took just 96 seconds until Tkachyov scored the winning goal for the guests from Ufa. Salavat Yulaev now has the opportunity to fix the rise on Thursday at home.
