Dinamo Riga got a setback in the fight for the play-offs with the 1-7 at St. Petersburg.
Dinamo Riga also wanted to take points at St. Petersburg after beating Minsk. The last game was in Russia in December and Riga went down as the winner of the ice.
At the beginning both teams had a power play, there were no goals. After a few minutes Riga went after a quick move by Redlihs – after pass from Darzins – with a 1-0 lead (7.). The joy for the Latvians did not last long, just under five minutes later Plotnikov posted the equalizer to 1: 1 (12th). This goal triggered Riga’s player’s uncertainty, which resulted in penalties. SKS accepted these “gifts” and Rundblad puts SKA 2-1 ahead (19.) just moments before the break. Riga acted undisciplined and Balinskis had to go to the penalty box 15 seconds before the break, and SKA was allowed to start the middle period with an overabundance.
SKA did not miss this opportunity and Yakupov scored the 3-1 (21.) just 27 seconds after the restart. After this goal Bilyalov left the ice and Gudlevskis came. A few seconds later, Riga came to a power play. After a mistake in the build-up Barabanov served with a pass Plotnikov, who scored with a short-handed goal – his second goal in this game – the 4-1 (22.). The game then became a little harder and there were again penalties on both sides. In the middle of the third, Prokhorkin increased to 5-1 after a pass from Rundblad (31.). That was the preliminary decision in this meeting. A few minutes later, there was a double penalty on the bedside and it continued with four to four. SKA is using this place better and Datsyuk scores 6-1 (35.). After this goal nothing more remarkable happened in this section and it went into the final period.
In the final perid of both teams, so to speak, the air was out. After about five minutes Kruchinin and McMillan went to a fight and both players were sent to the penalty box with a 2+2-minute penalty. SKA scores the last goal of the match – Kuzmenko reach the 7-1 (48.) after a solo effort. With this defeat, Dinamo Riga remains one point behind Sochi on rank 9, but has now completed a game more.
