Dinamo Riga celebrate 3-2 penalty shoot-out victory over Dinamo Minsk and continue to target the play-offs.
For Riga, in today’s game against Minsk, they continued to earn points for a possible play-off participation. It was also a game between two “Dinamo”-Teams.
The guests started immediately and Booth fired the first warning shot with the first opportunity. With the next action, it worked better – Wiercioch with a pass on Booth and it was 1-0 for Minsk (2.). The guests went down and Gudlevskis had to parry twice after long shots. Riga only then came to their chances, Batna and Darzins could not beat Entroth. For Minsk it was always the North American line with Booth in the lead, which left out another goal. For Riga, Maione tried one of his dangerous long shots. Four minutes before the break, Riga had the first power play and again it was Maione who tried the blue line. Minsk then had Howden and Kogalev, which destroyed Gudlevskis.
After the break, Riga put pressure off the bully and pushed for the equalizer. The first opportunity to find Alisauskas before, shortly after Razgals and Balinskis fail to Enroth. Minsk was totally on the defensive and Riga kept coming up with chances – Sotnieks with one shot, Enroth fighting off briefly, Meja’s margin also fending off Enroth, and before Berzins hit the puck, Stepanov could knock them out. After one of the rare intercepted counterattack from Minsk, Alisauskas played the puck over the board to McMillan, who scored the 1-1 equalizer (29.). Minsk came in for a few minutes to a power play and after a pass from Kovyrshin Lisovets put the puck next to the goal of Gudlevskis. Alisauskas found a chance for a short-handed hit after a long pass in that underpaid game, but was stopped irregularly by Pulkkinen. Riga again in the advantage and today very active Alisauskas fails to Enroth and Redlihs puts his shot to the gate.
Dinamo continued his powerful game in the final period, but Razgals and Dzerins failed to win Enroth. In the middle of the period, Redlihs came to the puck behind the goal from Minsk, playing on the already waiting Darzins, who immediately takes over directly and hits the 2-1 for Riga (50.). Then Minsk became more active again and Booth just missed a pass from Pulkkinen. Shortly afterwards, it was Sergei Kostitsyn, but his shot was too direct on Gudlevskis, as did Tereshenko. Riga was rarely seen in the attack, they wanted to bring the result over time. Minsk came through to more chances, but Gudlevskis also remained against Kogalev and Howden winner. About 50 seconds before the end, Minsk took a time-out and Enroth went off the ice. With this measure Minsk was also lucky. Two seconds before the end Tereshenko scored the 2-2 equalizer. It went into overtime.
In extra time, Riga had better chances – Razgals narrowly missed, McMillan fail from close range and Maione tried twice with a long shot. A few seconds before the end of the overtime Dzerins gave a chance. It had to decide the penalty shoot-out. Riga utilizes three of his penalties – the deciding Matt Maione. With this important victory, Riga is only one point behind the play-off places.
