The 28-year-old striker and international changes from ESC Dorfen to EHC Waldkraiburg.
Due to the change of the Latvian Kiril Galoha, the lions engaged the Lithuanian Povilas Verenis, who will wear the jersey of the EHC Waldkraiburg on Fraitag.
Verenis comes from Elektrenai, a 13,000-inhabitant city located 40 kilometers west of Lithuania’s capital Vilnius. Having made his first steps in hockey in Liepaja in eastern Latvia, he played almost constantly for his home club Energija Elektrenai, who competes in their own Lithuanian league and in the second Belarusian league, as well as for Liepaja in the first division of Belarus. In 83 top-flight games he scored 45 points scorer (22 goals), in the second division, there were strong 146 points in 96 games (74 goals). He also made 43 games for Lithuania’s national team (12 goals, 13 assists). Due to injury worries committed him this season, the ESC Dorfen and in the preliminary round of the Bundesliga Verenis came to ten goals and six assists in straight once ten games. The Eispiraten from Dorfen is due to the EHC Waldkraiburg, because only because of the good relations with the board of the Eispiraten it was possible to get Verenis to the Lions. The EHC Waldkraiburg welcomes Povilas Verenis, who is happy to be able to play regularly, and wishes him a successful time in the jersey of the industrial townspeople.
For Lithuania’s national team Verenis also played the IIHF World Championship DIV I B in April 2018 in Kaunas, where the promotion to the DIV II A was fixed. The goal is, of course, participation in the 2019 World Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan and the associated relegation. “Only with good games can I make myself interesting for Coach Lacroix and the National Team,” said Verenis. We wish Verenis all the best in the coming games and spared injuries.
