Dinamo Riga loses the first game of the “KHL World Games” in Zurich against St. Petersburg 1-3.
As part of the “KHL World Games 2018” today was the first of two games on the program. Dinamo Riga will face two of their “home games” in Zurich’s Hallenstadion against SKA St. Petersburg and on Wednesday against CSKA Moscow.
SKA was the dominating team away from the bully and Gudlevskis was under constant fire – Kruchinin and Khafizullin had the first good chances. This overweight was also used – Tokranov with a cross pass on Gusev, who deducts immediately. Gudlevskis was able to fend off for a moment, the puck jumps Prokhorkin in front of the stick and this only needs to be inserted – 1- 0 (5.). This goal inspired SKA but Kruchinin and Tikhonov, with an attempt to loosen the puck between the legs into the goal, awarded further chances. In the middle of the period, Riga woke up, probably due to a 5:3-power-play and a four-minute-penalty against Gusev. Alyayev, McMillan and Maione fail Hellberg. Clark also found a good opportunity towards the end of the third, and after a shot from Gillies, he only hits the crossbar.
A few seconds after the restart Gudlevskis could prevent another goal by Maltsev with a great reflex. Later in the game SKA was the game-determining team and worked out numerous, good chances – Zubarev, Kruchinin and Tokranov each awarded the Torkonto increase. A shot by Marchenko narrowly missed the goal of Riga. Only towards the end of the third Riga came back into the game and put SKA under pressure. Dinamo made it to success with a patiently executed passing game – Clark managed a 1-1 (39.) just two minutes before half-time, leaving Hellberg no chance.
Dinamo had the possibility of a power play shortly after the restart – Darzins found the best opportunity to equalize. After a very nice pass from Karpov to Datsyuk the “old master” completes in an elegant manner to 2-1 for SKA (43.). Rigas coach Ankipans claimed on goal-offside, but after video study of the referees this goal was given. Riga did not give up and found further opportunities through MacMillan and Balinskis. In addition, Dinamo came to a five-minute power play – Khafizullin was excluded from the game after a stick stab against Gegeris. Now Riga had its best phase and pressed for the equalizer. The goal of SKA seemed like bricked up, Redlihs, Alyayev had great chances. Maione only hits the goalbar with a powerful shot. After a quick counterattack Datsyuk fits Karpov who misses the puck by a few millimeters. About a minute before the end Gudlevskis went for a sixth player from the ice. The decision is made six seconds before the end – Zubarev brings the puck out of danger to Barabanov. He had no trouble and pushes the puck using Empty Net hit to 3-1 in the empty goal (60.). Dinamo Riga is defeated despite a good performance against a happier team from SKA with 1-3.
