Jesse Joensuu scored a hattrick in Jokerit Helsinki’s 4-2 win over Sochi. This leaves Jokerit at the top, even after the sixth CSKA victory in a row.
In the distance duel for the West Conference Leader position Jokerit remained at the top in the end. Sochi arrived with two away wins and kept up quite well in the first third. After the Jokerit lead by Jesse Joensuu in the 12th minute power play, Eric O’Dell equalized 27 seconds before the first break, also in defeat. In the second period, Helsinki drew 3-1 with a double strike at the start. Nicklas Jensen in the 22nd minute and Jesse Joensuu 55 seconds later were the scorers. In the 30th minute, the Finn Jesse Joensuu struck a third time – again in a power play. For the 30-year-old, this was his first hattrick in his 186th KHL game. Previously, the Finn has only twice reached a double victory. Sochi reduced Damir Musin’s lead to 2-4 in the final period, but that goal came too late. Sochi was unable to turn and Jokerit remains in the lead.

Joensuu CSKA kept Moscow in check with these three goals. The army team celebrated a 2-1 away win at Salavat Yulaev. CSKA managed a good first period and Greg Scott scored the only overweight game in the start period to a 1-0 lead. After the goal of Maxim Shalunov the guests from Moscow went with a 2-0 lead in the first break. Ufa was only able to reduce his goals in the 52nd minute through Burdasov in the final third – his ninth goal this season. Salavat Yuleav was unable to prevent CSKA Moscow’s sixth win in a row and lost the second home defeat in a row.

In the third game of the day, Traktor Chelyabinsk defeated Dynamo Moscow 1-0 in the 49th minute with a powerplay goal by Alexander Bergström. For Tractor goalie Alexander Sudnitsin this was his first season shut-out with 30 saves. Overall, it was the 18th “to-zero game” for the 30-year-old in his KHL career.
